If you’re a fan of this page then you’re most likely already a fan and up to speed on the musical offerings of The Deslondes, but we still have to give credit where credit is due.
In a perfect world, live albums will always reign supreme for me. However, factors like sound quality, production, and real-time performances can sometimes affect the end result. This is not the case with The Deslondes’ latest ep – Live AF Sessions, recorded and produced by Western AF. The band delivers impeccably, showcasing why they’re one of the best bands out there, and Western AF do what they do – and they do it well.
The Live AF Session EP is comprised of 6 tracks, with 1 previously unreleased song. The fresh takes on the modern classics are all well seasoned with tenure & maturity – nothing more than a few subtle but welcomed adjustments. Standouts for me include the previously unreleased gem “Hold On Liza” and the south Austin expanded version of “Less Honkin’ More Tonkin’,” featuring an additional verse and an extra dose of lead guitar work by the great John James Tourville.
Over the years, The Deslondes have grown from new fire-side friends to band mates & now brothers. Each bringing their own style & flavor, and the capacity to contribute creatively – giving them the incredible ability to weave within their own individual spheres of influence, yet remain so authentically themselves as a band. These guys have been a long time staple in our rotation and the new Western AF Sessions are a welcomed addition.
