Steel Saddle is a six-piece band from Montreal, Canada. The band was formed by Austin Boylan (vocals, guitar) and Mackenzie Sawyer (bass), who met while playing in different bands around town. They started Steel Saddle in 2020, and the lineup has since expanded to include Coleman Canton (drums), Nic Power (piano/organ, vocals), Benjamin Vallee (pedal steel, guitar, vocals), and Charlie Zucchero (guitar, vocals).
Their self-titled debut features a blend of traditional country and southern rock instrumentation, enhanced by a three-piece horn section that adds an R&B flair – as if 1960s country-rock visionaries The Flying Burrito Brothers traveled to Muscle Shoals and cut a record at Alabama’s fabled FAME Studios.. it’s as fun as it sounds!
With four of the band members sharing vocal duties and additional backing vocals by Cassidy Johnson, the harmonies are abundant and excellent.
