Sierra Ferrell is arguably the most magnetic figure in the country/Americana scene today. Are there larger artists – more commonly known throughout your average household? Yeah, probably. But few, if any, come with the sort of whimsical charisma that Ferrell possesses. It’s this charm that has deeply rooted the love within her fan base.
With just her second full-length album, Trail Of Flowers, she’s at a point where she can begin to diversify, and her fan base isn’t going to stray in the slightest. That’s not to say that there have been any drastic changes on her newest release. Trail Of Flowers still retains the old-timey feel you’d expect, with a dash of extra but tasteful production throughout.
“I wanted to create a fuller sound with bigger drums, but still stay true to the stripped-down feel of old-time music,” says Sierra Ferrell.
She, along with producers Eddie Spear and Gary Pacsoza, absolutely nailed it! The result is beautifully balanced. This second full-length effort delivers a more expansive sonic landscape, showcasing a more elaborate palette of sounds – a sound that could taking her from selling out the Ryman to selling out the Garden.
Top-notch musicianship from both Sierra and the band is demonstrated from start to finish. Lyrically, Trail Of Flowers touches on love and heartache, loneliness, and finding solace in oneself – getting through and getting by, even if that means a couple folks will be laid down to rest in the garden – by way of a murder ballad.
