As the music industry winds down for the year and new releases become sparse, Rachel Baiman breathes fresh life into the scene with A Sides/B Sides.
With this project, Baiman set out to create a unique offering: two tracks – a digital A Side and B Side – that when paired, feel like a musical “short story.” This concept is woven into a broader nine-song journey featuring inspired collaborations with Pony Bradshaw, Caroline Spence, Nicholas Jamerson, Kaia Kater, Andrea Von Kampen, and Sam Burchfield.
The record is soft and gentle, lyrically captivating, and, as she suggests, full of short stories – both personal and reflective of today’s social climate and its accompanying turmoil.
The first single, Dominoes, caught fire upon release. Wide Open Country described it as “a gut-wrenching tale that catalogs the tension between two people acting on their worst impulses, leading to a domino effect of fallout.”
Musically, A Sides/B Sides is a beautifully understated listen, striking the perfect balance of folk and pop – reminiscent of modern-day greats like Feist and Cat Power.
Baiman, a multi-instrumentalist, was born in Chicago, but it didn’t take her long to realize she belonged in Music City. At just 18 years old, she took her show on the road to Nashville, where she still resides today.
