During the solitary times of the pandemic, like many, Anna Moss ventured into something new to fill her time: playing the guitar. Despite her previous experience with the saxophone, bass clarinet, upright bass, and occasional beatboxing in her pop-infused Americana duo, Handmade Moments, Moss embraced this new instrument.
Her debut solo album, Amnesty(Empire Records), features 10 smooth and velvety R&B tracks. Moss enlisted the support of friends and her New Orleans music family to join her, transitioning from sidewalk performances to actual venues.
Through Amnesty, Moss delves into personal themes such as depression, isolation, enduring love, and the societal struggles exacerbated by the very pandemic that was also the seedling to her new solo project.. showcasing vulnerability and introspection.
This album represents both a fresh & classic take on soul music – blending Southern R&B, Americana, and “Crescent City” porch jazz, while delivering gritty anthems on humanity, abolition, compassion, and forgiveness.
