Weaving between & threading the needle of Americana and star-gazing Indie Folk-Rock, Angus & Julia Stone have released their latest effort – Cape Forestier. It’s versatile, but simple and so easy to listen to.. showcasing why the duo has maintained a steady stroll in the music industry for so long.
After a short hiatus to pursue their own paths and make individual music, the siblings have reunited to create this delightful record. Angus & Julia Stone have been making music together for 20 years – starting in their father’s living room and coming full circle to Cape Forestier, the name of a boat that holds significant childhood memories for each of them.
Angus has found a new home with a home studio tucked away in the hinterland of the Northern Rivers. It was here at Sugarcane Mountain Studios that much of Cape Forestier was recorded. The rest of the album came together from afar, with Angus recording on the road from hotel rooms while touring with his solo project, Dope Lemon, and his portable recording gear, and Julia between Berlin and her new home in Tasmania.
Despite spending long periods apart, their familial chemistry stands strong on Cape Forestier. They pick up like old friends, yet are even more in tune with one another as kin. This dynamic has resulted in an album that is both emotionally powerful and their most stripped-down and intimate work to date. Also my favorite to date.. They’ve always been quite good at evoking emotions, it’s a hallmark of their music – and Cape Forestier is no exception. Both Angus & Julia, capable of carrying a song on their own, but never competing for the spot light – rather just complimenting one another.
