Patton Magee, known for his involvement with everyone’s favorite countrified indie rock band – The Nude Party is set to release a solo project under his own name – Patton Magee, Last Cowboy On The Prairie.
Magee says, “I don’t really think I’m the last one out here. But ultimately, those are the stories and sounds that speak to me most deeply.”
Last Cowboy On The Prairie brings an immense amount of old timey elements with his personal flavor. Flutes, sharp whit & swagger.. old trail songs and ballads ridden with gunfights & an underlying humor. Magee has crafted an album that’s cinematic, fit to take you down the dusty trails of a modern day spaghetti western.
Born in Texas to parents from Louisiana, Patton grew up on the move – one of ten siblings packed into a GMC Savannah van that crisscrossed the country. From the Gulf Coast to the Bay Area, through the Rocky Mountains and eventually to the Carolinas, he experienced the United States mile by mile, framed through the window of a backseat. Now based in NYC – maybe more city slicker than cowboy, but his roots are firm, and his musical stylings have dished up a fresh buffet of many genres touching on one plate. After being on the move as a child, he toured extensively with The Nude Party – it’s this road life that has shaped his voice and the stories themself – evoking the western charisma of Marty Robbins, the sharp-edged, streetwise storytelling of Lou Reed in New York, the swampy swagger of Dr. John’s bayou grooves, and the mischievous, Midwest rock & roll spirit of Chuck Berry. Last Cowboy On The Prairie is as good and fun as that all sounds.
Patton Magee’s debut solo album is not a country album, it’s not a rock album – it’s an evolution, and expansion of his capabilities as a songwriter and storyteller.
