After what’s been described as a turbulent decade in Nashville, turning her brown eyes blue – Kristina Murray is set to release one heck of an album.. this Friday – her first in seven years, Little Blue. Murray’s tough times are here to be our reward, steeped in a sadness that consistently hovers around.. but Little Blue brings more wail than wallow.
“I’ve been to some pretty low places these last ten years,” Murray confesses. “Faced a lot of heartbreak & loss and grief, but you have to learn to live with those things if you’re going to survive. You have to persevere.”
Little Blue is a collection of experiences, rooted to Murray’s wisdom & barroom perspective. From the opening track, “You Got Me” – a super fun upbeat groover to the closing title track, a stripped down ballad that erupts into what seems like an eruption of pent up emotions. She’s spent countless nights playing under the low hanging ceilings of beloved honky tonks and juke joints, soaking in the spirit of those rooms – & Little Blue exudes that energy. It’s these late nights & tough times that’s laid the foundation for what feels sounds like a breakthrough album. Though still flying under the radar outside East Nashville, she’s already delivered two exceptional records. Her sound is seasoned because she’s is, Murray is a staple of the Music City scene. A co-founder of Honky Tonk Tuesdays & one of the first women to front a band at the iconic Santa’s Pub.
With Little Blue, Murray packs decades of music history into one album – drawing from the ’60s, ’70s, & ’80s golden country sound, while adding hints of swampy Americana & R&B-infused Southern rock.
Produced by Misa Arriaga and Rachael Moore, & recorded in Nashville, the album is beautifully crafted from start to finish. There are no fillers – just pure, old-school country at its core. Having already released three tracks, the tone is set – but these songs aren’t just a highlight reel. They’re a preview of a rich, cinematic album full of small-town burnouts and last-call lovers.
